Instructions to authors

Scope and policy

All manuscripts (mss) are critically reviewed, the final decision as to a ms suitability lies only with the editors.

Five types of papers are acceptable: letters, articles, feature articles or reviews, comments and errata.

Letters: is a concise, but complete, description of a limited investigation where timely publication is a key factor. Letters should be as completely documented, both by reference to the literature and description of the  experimental procedures employed, as a regular article.

Letters are restricted to ca. 2000 words and 3 – 4 figures.

Articles: should be complete and authoritative accounts of work, which has special significance and general interest, presented clearly and concisely. Articles are published in the order of acceptance.

Feature articles or reviews: are commissioned by the Editor-in-Chief. Review papers furnish critical analyses of topical subjects. Authors intending to offer critical reviews are advised first to contact the Editor-in-Chief.

Comments: Comments and replies should be limited wherever possible to two printed pages (including figures). They will be refereed in the normal way.

Errata: are author's corrections to printed mss, limited to the length required to correct errors.

Form and preparation of manuscripts

  • All mss are received on the basis that they are original and unpublished and are not being considered for publication elsewhere, including the web.
  • All types of mss should be written in English. The Editors could suggest a language revision or introduce minor corrections themselves when they are considered necessary.
  • In both Letters and Articles the introduction should be a separate section. The introduction should clearly specify the aims of the study as well as the relationship with previous and current works in the field.
  • Mss should be typed double-spaced by using a 12 pt Times New Roman font on consecutively numbered pages of A4 paper. If special fonts are employed they should be enclosed along  with the document file. The names of the authors should  be listed in the order as follows: first name (or initial), middle initial(s), surname. The corresponding author should be indicated with an asterisk in a footnote, including his/her e-mail address and fax number. The mailing or institutional address should follow the line with the authors' names. If different institutions are involved they should be listed as follows: authors, followed by the institution address, as many times as necessary.

All articles must contain the same Abstract in English and in Spanish. The abstract is the part of the paper which will be read by the largest number of scientists so it plays a crucial role. The abstract is a condensation of the information (facts) in the paper; it is not a description of the contents of the paper. The abstract should present as much as possible of the qualitative and quantitative information contained in the paper yet it should be brief (50–250 words), specific and self-contained. The abstract should not include trivial experimental details, figures or equations.

  • The abstract is to be followed by the  Introduction in which the authors should summarize the motivations of the work including an updated survey of the literature. Any descriptions of experiments or techniques should be included in the  Experimental section. The Discussion section should be followed by the Conclusions section at the end of the ms. All credits to institutions, financial support, discussions, etc. should be included in the Acknowledgments section at the end of the Conclusions.
  • Manuscripts should be sent as document files written with Microsoft Word, up to Word 2000, or WordPerfect. Should  any other word-processing software be employed, please use rtf format.
  • All figures must be included in separate files, in (compressed) TIFF format.

For bitmapped line drawings use a minimun of 1000 dpi.

For colour of greyscale photographs(halftones): always use a minimum of 300 dpi. For colour images (special charges) always use CMYK.

Combinations bitmapped line/half-tone (colour or greyscale): a minimun of 500 dpi is required.

  • Graphics made in Word or Word  Perfect generally have too low a resolution. Do not supply files that are optimized for screen use (like GIF, BMP, PICT, WPG, etc).
  • Do not submit colour images to be printed in black and white. Each figure should have the following maximum dimensions: width: 14 cm, height: 20 cm.

The lettering on your artwork should have a finished, printed size of 7 pt for normal text and not smaller than 6 pt for subscript and superscript characters.

The absolute minimum line width is 0.5 pt; however, a minimum line width of 1 pt is preferable.

Chemical structures should be produced with any standard software and considered as a standard figure. The software used should be indicated.

  • The final, approved ms, should be fully translatable to PDF format without corruption (in checking this, special attention should be given to equations, chemical structures, diagrams, images, unusual symbols, etc).
  • Once the ms has been accepted, the authors should send the final version in electronic form. Mss will be processed only if they are on electronic media.
  • Do not include any page-layout instructions such as placement information for figures or tables in the file. The text should not be fully justified. Use carriage returns only to end a paragraph. Do not insert spaces before punctuation.
  • All text including title page, abstract, all sections of the body of the paper, figure captions, footnotes, references and tabular information should be in one file. All tables should be at the end of the document.
  • Tables should be created with the word processor table feature.
  • References: All references must be numbered consecutively as they appear in the text in square brackets in line with the text. References should not be included in endnotes. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references. Journal articles and books should be cited by using the following formats:

            [1] J. van der Geer, J.A.J. Hanraads, R. A. Lupton, J. Sci. Commun. 2000, 163, 51.

For citing and listing of web references, as a minimun the full URL should be given. Any further information, if known (author names, dates, reference to a source publication, etc.), should also be given.

  • Nomenclature and Symbols: International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry systematic nomenclature of compounds should be used. Symbols and quantities should conform to  IUPAC recommendations.
  • Tables, schemes, and charts should be labeled with Arabic numerals. Mathematical expressions and chemical formulas with unusual symbols and letters should be provided as a standard figure.

Revised manuscripts

A ms sent back to the authors with the reviewers' comments should be corrected and returned  to the corresponding Associate Editor. Revised papers should normally be resubmitted within 12 weeks of the date of rejection.

The new version of the ms should be accompanied with a letter from the authors where the introduced changes are indicated and explained. The dates of receipt of the original and final revised versions will both appear in the publication.

All revised copies will be sent back to the original reviewers except when the suggested corrections are minor.

 Galley proofs

There will be no galley proofs since the material employed by the publishing office will be the file supplied by the authors.  The authors would  be asked to revise a proof, only in the case where a problem had been  detected

 Copyright transfer

Corresponding authors will be required to sign a copyright form provided by the Editors. Authors should ensure that permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources (including the Web).

 Page charges

There will be no page charge for Members of the Asociación Química Argentina with their membership dues updated (no waivers will be allowed for papers published with colour figures).

Other contributors will be charged 7 U$S per final printed page.

Bank transfer, checks (made payable to the order of Asociación Química Argentina) and VISA credit card, could be used to pay for page charges.

Sending of manuscripts

All mss should be sent to the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Reynaldo O. Lezna. Manuscripts that are judged by the Editor to fall within the scope of the Journal  will be sent on to the appropriate Associate Editors according to the subject. All further correspondence regarding the ms should be addressed to the Associate Editor.

The Editor may appoint a Guest Editor for a special issue of the Journal.

Electronic submission of mss is encouraged. Files (compressed) containing the document, submission note, figures and any other relevant material should be sent to: anales@inifta.unlp.edu.ar. The authors should provide a reliable electronic address to ensure a fast communication channel with the editorial board.

Mss  sent by regular mail should include an electronic version in addition to the hardcopy. The mailing address is Prof. Reynaldo O. Lezna, INIFTA, C.C. 16 Suc. 4 (B1906ZAA), La Plata, Argentina.
