Instructions to authors

Scope and policy

Peer-review process

All manuscripts will be submitted to external peer-review, simple blind, by two peers. The manuscript will be accepted for publication only if both revisions advise it. In the case that one of the reviewers advises rejection, a third reviewer will be consulted or the Editorial Committee will make the final decision.
The manuscript may be accepted without modifications, accepted with modifications or rejected.
Our goal is to communicate a first editorial decision within four to seven weeks after initial reception of the manuscript and publish an online version within a maximum of six months.

Form and preparation of manuscripts

Manuscript Submission
Presentation and revision of manuscripts will be done by e-mail. No hardcopies will be used. Manuscripts should be submitted by e-mail to actageologicalilloana@gmail.com
Manuscripts can be written in Spanish or English. They can be short Notes or full-length Articles. Authors must indicate the category under which the manuscript is submitted.
Authors must attach a cover letter addressed to the Editor of the Acta Geológica Lilloana. In the cover letter, the originality of the manuscript must be expressly stated. The cover letter should also state that the manuscript has not been submitted for publication elsewhere, nor will be submitted during the duration of the editorial process of the Acta Geológica Lilloana. If the manuscript includes figures protected by copyright, express permission from whoever corresponds must be given. The cover letter must also include the title of the manuscript, names of authors, e-mail addresses, which author is the corresponding author, and the number of pages, figures and tables of the manuscript.
The first submission must include the complete manuscript (text, figure and table legends, figures and tables inserted at the end of the manuscript) in only one PDF file. All lines and pages must be numbered.
Once the manuscript is accepted for publication, the text (the main body of the text followed by the figure and table legends) must be sent in DOC or DOCX format. Figures and tables must be sent in separate files; figures in their original format or as JPG or TIF files with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi (600 dpi for greyscale figures), and tables in DOC, DOCX or XLS format.

Notes
They are manuscripts with a maximum of 3,000 words. They must include title, names of authors, their addresses, an abstract of 150 words maximum in Spanish or English as appropriate, keywords, text (without subtitles) and references. This category of manuscripts includes notable geologic information, paleontological findings, brief descriptions, orbituaries, etc. They can include up to two figures and/or tables. The same format as for Articles should be followed.

Articles
Maximum length of 13,000 words. All of the manuscript must be typed double-spaced and left-aligned, using font type Times New Roman size 12. All pages and lines must be numbered.
The first page will include: title (in bold and lowercase), authors (complete first names in lowercase, last names in uppercase), affiliations, postal and email addresses, and at the bottom of the page the total number of pages, figures and tables.

Example of format for the first page:

The second page will include abstracts in English and in Spanish with a maximum of 250 words each. Keywords in both languages (maximum of six, separated by commas) must be below each abstract.

Example of format for the second page:

The main text of the manuscript will start on the third page. In general, main text should include: introduction, geological setting, methods, results, discussion, conclusions, acknowledgements and references.

The main text can be organized under titles of different order. First order titles must be in uppercase and bold; the text starts after a blank line. Second order titles must be in lowercase and bold; the text starts in the next line. Third order titles must be in lowercase, italics and with a period at the end; the text starts in the same line.

The typography should always be in black. Avoid using ALL CAPS (with the exception of acronyms) and bold case (except for subtitles). Reserve italic case for scientific names and words in latin. Foreign words should be quoted. Do not use footnotes; if necessary, place a reference (superscript or asterisk) and derive the note at the end of the manuscript. Use the International System of Units (SI), abbreviated correctly (no points: um, mm, m, km, g, kg, masl). In the case of unconventional or unusual alphabets or mathematical symbols, please include indications to the Editor for correct editorial treatment. Stratigraphic nomenclature must follow the norms of the Código Argentino de Estratigrafía. Zoological and botanical nomenclatures must follow the norms of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature and the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature, respectively.

The main text should be structured in a way that it is not necessary to insert figures in the middle of paragraphs; in the text, place references to the figures and tables (e.g. Figure 1) where appropriate. The figures and tables must be numbered consecutively and must be cited in the text as figure (the number) and table (the number). Figure and table legends must be included in a separate page at the end of the manuscript; legends should be self-explanatory of the topic they illustrate or show.

If previously published figures, protected by copyright, are included, the authors are responsible for obtaining the corresponding written permission, unless these are substantially modified.

Graphical Material

  • In the preparation of figures and tables, take into account the following:
  • Figures must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi; preferably a resolution of 600 dpi for greyscale figures.
  • The maximum size of the figure box is 14 x 20 cm. Draw the figures in their final size. Text size and line thickness should be clearly legible and visible in the final figure size.
  • The text in the figures should be Arial 10 (final size).
  • Maps must always carry geographical coordinates, north and graphic scale.
  • Use black, continuous and clean lines of at least 0.1 mm.
  • Photographs must be of excellent quality and have a graphic scale.
  • Figure frames should be thin lines.
  • Tables must have a title on top; any explanations (abbreviations, etc.) should be placed below the table. The typography should be Arial 8 to 10. The lines should be simple (minimum width 0.5 point, maximum width 1 point); avoid excess of lines.
