Instructions to authors

 

Scope and editorial policy

 

The call for papers is permanently open during the year. The frequency is three publications a year. Folia Histórica del Nordeste follows a policy of double-blind peer review with external evaluations by experts in each of the research areas mentioned.
Before submitting the manuscripts, authors must follow the “Guidelines for authors” which describe the editorial policy as well as the submission instructions, and the process of selection of works for the journal. Form and preparation of manuscripts

 

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Only original and unpublished works written in Spanish or Portuguese will be accepted, after the selection process and the peer review. The length of the texts will not exceed the 25 A4 sheets, including graphics, tables, figures, and bibliographical references. The manuscripts must be written in 11-point type Times New Roman font with 1.5 spacing. Margins must have 2.5 cm in each side, in A4 sheet. The automatic format for indentation provided by Microsoft Word must be used (1.25 cm), without paragraph separation. Vignettes, as well as special spacing and other non-habitual details should be avoided in order to facilitate the edition process. 
The manuscript must be sent in digital format (Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF), together with a letter of transfer of publication rights. In addition to the manuscript, must be sent:

    • A page which contains the names of all the authors, graduate degree, last post-graduate degree, actual position and institution, address, telephone numbers and e-mail address of each author.
    • A page in which the complete title of the work, its abstract, and keywords, in Spanish, Portuguese, and English are stated.

    JOURNAL SECTIONS
                ARTICLES
                Critical evaluation or research results of empirical or conceptual nature.

                NOTES AND DOCUMENTS
                The aim of this section is to publish historical sources, interviews with specialists, and state of scientific knowledge accompanied by short studies which contextualize the selected texts.

                REVIEWS
    Includes the review of books, leaflets, and recently published articles as well as works of regional interest.

    DOSSIER
    It presents a body of research of empirical or conceptual nature destined to discuss a topic from a cross-disciplinary perspective.

    Manuscript selection
    Once the manuscript is submitted, it will be revised by the editorial board in order to determine if it is in accordance to the journal aims and norms, and the editorial policy. Then, the manuscripts that pass the initial screening by the editorial boardwill be sent to evaluation by to two or more experts from the relevant scientific field. The journal uses double-blind peer review throughout the review process.
    The reviewers has 30 (thirty) days from the date of reception of the manuscript to:
    (1) acceptthe manuscript without modification.
    (2) accept the manuscript with minor modification.
    (3) indicate that major modifications are required prior to potential acceptance.
    (4) reject the manuscript.

    In case that the two reviewers agree to reject the manuscript, the editorial board will consider that the manuscript is not suitable for publication. The suitability for publication of the manuscript depends on the acceptance by the two reviewers (options 1 or 2).
    If one or both reviewers consider that the manuscript requires major modifications, the author/s will have 30 (thirty) days to revise their manuscript. Besides, the editorial board may suggest revisions in regards to text length, style, and number of tables or figures. The author must send a note to the editorial board indicating the content and location within the manuscript of the changes made, and a justification of the reviewer’s observations that were disregarded.
    The decision of the review process is unappealable, and it will be communicated to the authors within 60 (sixty) days from the reception of the manuscript.

    ABSTRACT
    All manuscripts, except book reviews, must include an abstract of about 10 (ten) singlespaced lines, 10 point font, in Spanish, and English. It should describe the purpose of the study, the data analyzed, and the contributions made by the manuscript.
    KEY WORDS
    Four key words in Spanishand English, separated by the symbols <> must be listed. For example, <key word 1><key word 2>.

    NOTES AND DOCUMENTS
    The manuscript maximun length submitted to this section is 10 (ten) pages. The original repository, and if appropriate, the catalogue number of the documentand the complete reference of the series should be stated clearly.
    In case of unpublished document transcriptions, the criteria of selection and transcription norms must be stated, and justified.

    BOOK REVIEWS
    The books reviewed should not be older than 2 (two) years from the moment of the book review submission. The book reviews maximun length is 3 (three) pages.

    TEXT REFERENCES
    They should be included in parentheses within the text (Surname, Year), in regular font, and between quotation marks. If a direct quotation exceeds 5 (five) lines, it should be centered with 2 cm margins on the right and left side. Quotations from archive documents should be included as footnotes.

    ILLUSTRATIONS
    Illustrations should be sent separately, one per page, from the Word manuscript, and should be included with Arabic correlative numbering, title, and notes that clarify abbreviations and sources.
    Maps, graphics and pictures should all be named as figures. They must be sent at high quality, with a minimum resolution of 200 dpi (the most appropriate resolution is between 300 and 400 dpi) in one of the two image formats (.tif or .jpg). If Excel tables or figures have been generated, it is highly recommended to send those files as Excel files. In case that an already published figure is included, the original source must be mentioned, and a note with the authorization to publish it by the copyright owner should be also sent. This permission is not required when the documents are of public domain.

    NOTES
    Footnotes should be 9 point type Times New Roman font, and inserted with the automatic system of numbering of the word processor.

    BIBLIOGRAPHICAL AND DOCUMENTAL REFERENCES
    The model for citation follows the system of last name-name-year. The references must be located at the end of the text, and ordered alphabetically. In the case of documental references, the name of the repository, bundle, file, sheets, and years must be quoted in first place.

    LETTER OF TRANSFER OF PUBLICATION RIGHTS
               
                A letter must be attached, in which it should be declared that "the article entitled XXX" is an original work, which was not totally nor partially published in any printed or electronic media, and was not submitted simultaneously to another publication and it is not currently under evaluation for publication in any other kind of publication. In the case that the article is accepted for publication, I transfer the rights for publication to the journal Folia Histórica del Nordeste. These include: the rights for editing, publishing, reproducing, distributing copies (electronic or multimedia ones), and the right to include the article in national and international indexes, or databases. All the statements included in this paper are exclusive responsibility of the author/s. The letter must be signed by at least one of the authors.
