General guidelines
The articles must be written on the template below. Authors must submit their manuscripts electronically to http://rasal.sael.org.ar/ in a Word file (2007 version or later) and in a Word and a PDF files if the paper contains special symbols. Potential contributors must first register as authors ( “Autor”) in the platform. (If you have technical problems or questions, contact RASAL Support at revistarasal@gmail.com).
Once the responsible author has created an account, they must upload their article (an anonymized Word document), the complete name of all the authors, the title of the article, and the abstracts in Spanish (or Portuguese) and English. In addition, authors must edit their profile (“editar perfil”), and they must include their institutional affiliation in “Contacto”, their ORCID number and a brief bio-note of about 5 lines that specifies the author ’s position, academic qualifications and research areas of interests in “Público”.
Research articles must be between 6.500 and 10.000 words.
Download research articles template
Format
Research articles must contain the following structure and the following elements:
- Title of the article in Spanish and in English
- Name and family name of the author (do not include this in the first submission)
- Name of the institution of affiliation (do not include this in the first submission)
- Abstracts in Spanish and in English (maximum of 200 words each). Below each abstract, there must be not more than 5 keywords in the corresponding language, in small-case letters, separated by semi-colon and stop at the end.
- The body of the article must respect the conventions and extension specified as follows
- Abbreviations (if there are)
- Notes (if there are)
- Corpus (if there is)
- References
Manuscripts must use 10-point Times New Roman font, single spacing, 16 x 23,5 centimeters page size (top margin: 2,9 centimeters; bottom margin: 2,4 centimeters; left and right margins: 1,5 centimeters), with no spaces between paragraphs of the template to facilitate the unification and editing process.
Metalinguistic uses and mentions, foreign language expressions, expressions in Latin, Latin abbreviations like “e.g.” and “i.e.”, among others, must be written in italics, and not in-between inverted commas. Bold type must not be used. All caps must not be used in the rest of the body of the article. Long dashes must be used for clarifications.
For phonetic transcriptions we kindly ask authors to use symbols of the International Phonetic Alphabet and Doulos SIL font.
Title and headings
- The title of research articles must begin flush left and in small caps.
- Section headings should not contain bold-type letters, and they must be case-sensitive and numbered consecutively. The first-level heading (1.) must be written in Roman print and 11-point font. Second-level headings (1.1.) must be written in italics and 10-point font size. Third-level headings and those of subsequent levels must also be written in italics and 10-point font. Do not include a stop after the title and headings. The nature and the number of sections are expected to be those that are typical of quality research papers. If a section includes different subsections, there needs to be at least two different ones. Sections containing only one subsection need to be avoided because that implies that subdivisions are not necessary.
- Leave a space before and after each heading.
Body of the article
The body of the article must be written in 10-point Times New Roman, single spacing, and with no spaces between paragraphs. Paragraphs in the body of the article must be justified on both sides.
Examples
- Examples must be numbered consecutively, in 9-point size font, and in Roman print. They should be separated from the body of the article by a space (before and after each example).
- The example number should be written inbetween parenthesis. Left-align examples 1 centimeter from the margin.
- To list subsequent variants within one example, use letters followed by stop, not a parenthesis.
Figures and charts
- If there are figures (e.g., images, photographs, schemas, systematizations) or charts, they must be numbered consecutively, in 9-point Roman font (e.g., “Figure 1. Title”).
- Figures and chart captions should be included right below the figure or graph. Captions should be included after the corresponding number. Use 9-point Roman font. Do not use bold letters. Allfigures and charts should be centered.
- Figures and charts should be numbered independently from one another.
- Titles of rows and columns inside charts must be written in bold letters.
- Use the expression “chart”, rather than “table”.
End-notes and abbreviations
- Footnotes are not allowed. It is strongly advisable to keep end-notes to a minimum. All end-notes need to be included at the end of the research article.
- In the body of the article, end-note numbers need to be placed at the end of a sentence and after the stop.
- The abbreviations used in sample glosses must be listed in the “Abbreviations” section after the main body and before the “Notes” and “References” sections. Leave a space between the word and the abbreviation and separate each of them with a semi-colon.
- Abbreviations must be written in small caps.
Quotations
- Short quotations (less than 3 lines long) should run-on in the text and be enclosed in double quotation marks. Include the corresponding page number/s.
- Longer quotations (those exceeding 3 lines) should appear as a separate block using 10-point size font and single spacing. Align the quotation 1.5 centimeter from each margin. Do not use quotation marks. Include the corresponding page number/s in all quotations.
- It is strongly advisable to keep quotations that are not in Spanish or Portuguese to a minimum. In case they are needed, a translation should be included in the body of the article, and it is possible to include the original quoted text in an end-note.
DATA CORPUS
In case of using a corpus, it should be included in an additional section right before the “References” section. The title of this section should be “Corpus” and it must be written in small caps.
REFERENCES
In the body of the article, the references must be indicated taking the following examples as model:
- Citation without page number in the body of the text: Blake (1990)
- Citation with page number in the body of the text: Blake (1990, p. 15)
- Parenthetical citation without page number: (Talmy, 2000)

The submitted book reviews must be original and unpublished and must not be simultaneously under consideration in other journals, conference proceedings or books published by local or international publishing houses.
RASAL Lingüística accepts book reviews in Spanish and Portuguese and the call for book reviews is open during the entire year. On the basis of the number of received and accepted manuscripts, the journal will opportunely communicate the year and issue in which an accepted book review will be published.

GUIDELINES FOR BOOK REVIEW CONTENT AND STYLE
- The entire book review should be written in an evaluative tone and it should express a stance in relation to the work being reviewed even though it may not necessarily praise every aspect of it.
- The topic and main problem (or topics and central problems) of the reviewed work should be made explicit at the beginning of the review.
- It should be specified who the work is aimed at preferably or who its potential readers are. There could be a divergence between what the authors declare as their audience and what the book reviewer considers to be the audience that truly suits the characteristics of the book.
- The structure of the reviewed book (its parts and chapters) must be presented along with a complete summary of its content. In the case of collective volumes, equal attention should be paid to each of the parts.
- If there are, glossaries, appendices or annotated bibliographies should be mentioned.
- It is advisable to establish relations between the reviewed book and the rest of the work by the same author or other books on the same subject matter.
- The reviewed book should be contextualized by relating its form and content to the time and place in which it was published.
- The reviewer should identify the most original contributions and the most thoroughly addressed points by the authors.
- It is essential that the review identifies the limitations in the scope of the work and the weaknesses in the development of the topic. This is a constitutive feature of the genre “book review”.
- It is advisable to cite or quote books that are directly related to the assessed text, which would allow comparisons and the identification of commonalities in the topic.
END-NOTES AND ABBREVIATIONS
- Footnotes are not allowed. It is strongly advisable to keep end-notes to a minimum. All end-notes need to be included at the end of the book review.
- In the body of the review, end-note numbers need to be placed at the end of a sentence and after the stop.
Align the quotation 1.5 centimeters from each margin. Do not use quotation marks. Include the corresponding page number/s in all quotations.
- It is strongly advisable to keep quotations that are not in English to a minimum. In case they are needed, a translation into English should be included in the body of the review, and it is possible to include the original quoted text in an end-note.
DATA CORPUS
- In case of using a corpus, it should be included in an additional section right before the “References” section. The title of this section should be “Corpus” and it must be written in small caps.
