Instructions to authors

 

Scope and policy

 

Temas y Debates is a biannual academic journal edited by the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of the National University of Rosario, the journal is devoted to the dissemination of unpublished works on Social Sciences, especially in the fields of Political Science, International Relations, Social Communication and Social Work. The primary aim of the journal is to strengthen the links between authors and researchers from the national and international academic field. The contributions received from diverse Social Sciences disciplines include the following kinds of work:

- Research articles
- Communications
- State of the art in Social Sciences specific topics  
- Reviews

 

 

Form and preparation of manuscripts

 

These works must be unpublished, written in Spanish or Portuguese, and, not presented to be published by other journals. Also, they must meet the following requirements:

1. A publication request letter addressed to the Editing Committee specifying title of the work, author’s personal data (first and last names, highest academic degree earned, institution/s where he/she works, address, phone number, and, e-mail).

2. In order to guarantee the anonymity of the selection, two (2) printed copies without the author’s data must be sent to the address indicated at the end. The text with author’s full data must be sent on a CD-R or by e-mail.

3. Maximum extent of the works: 65,000 characters for articles, 25,000 characters for notes and communications, and 10,000 characters for bibliographical reviews. A4 sheet-size (297 x 210 mm), one and a half line spacing, 3 cm margins, and, Times New Roman 12 font are required.

4. Charts and diagrams must be separated from the text, numbered, and presented with their corresponding titles and references regarding their place in the text.

5. Quotations and references: Harvard system must be used for quotations within the text (author’s last name, publication year: page number). Example: (Bourdieu, 2000:23).
Correlatively numbered footnotes must be used for explanatory or enlarging notes.

6. Bibliography must be at the end of the article; introduce authors in alphabetical order; and, include the following data: a) initial of the first name and the last name of the author in capital letters; b) publication year into brackets; c) title of the work in italics; d) publication place; e) publishing company; f) volume, tome; g) in the case of articles of journals, the title of the journal must be in italics, and, the title of the article must be presented in standard Time New Roman font, into quotation marks and between commas.

P. BOURDIEU (2000), Las estructuras sociales de la economía, Buenos Aires, Manantial.

-Book-chapter example:
M. DIAMOND (1996), “El Federalista” en L. STRAUSS y J. CROPSEY (comp.)  Historia de la Filosofía Política, México, Fondo de Cultura Económica.

- Journal-article example:
J. M. GÓMEZ (1997), “Globalização da política. Mitos, realidades e dilemas”, en Praia Bermelha, Rio de Janeiro, Vol. I,  Nº 1.

- Web example:
Data of books, book articles, journal articles, or, newspaper articles must include electronic publication date, date of the last available updating, date of access to the Web site, and
website or URL between < >.

7. Abstract:  author/s must send an abstract with a maximum extent of 200 words (or 1,000 characters) accompanied by its key words. It must be written either in Spanish or Portuguese, according to the source language, and in English.

8. Title of the article: it must be written either in Spanish or Portuguese, according to the source language, and in English. The selection of works to be published will be done by the Editing Committee and external advisors. Relevancy of the proposed topic, quality of the work, bibliographical updating, and the fulfilment of writing rules will be taken into account for the acceptance. First, the members of the Editing Committee will preliminarily set the relevancy of the article to be published. Second, provided that topical as well as formal requirements are met, two academic peers will anonymously set what follows: 1) recommendation for either publication as article or communication without changes, 2) publication with suggested re-elaboration, and, 3) no recommendation for publication. In the case there are two evaluations that ask for modifications; both will be sent to the author in order to be joined in the final text. If one of the academic peers recommends the publication of the work and the other considers it is not publishable, a third referee will be called, (in both cases, the results of the selection process will not be appealable).             

Author/s of the article/s to be published must transfer copyright to Temas y Debates. Thereby, published material cannot be reproduced without explicit authorization of this journal which, in turn, has the rights to edition, publication, reproduction, and, copy delivery of the work.

The article may be included in national and international indexes as well as data bases, and, it may also be source of other derived works to be presented in paper or electronically. Collaborators are asked a letter including explicit originality and assignment of copyright.

Temas y Debates is neither accountable for unpublished works nor compelled to be in correspondence with authors.
