Abstract

KORIN, Jorge. Antithrombin: 25 years later: A tribute to a long lasting source of knowledge in Hemostasis. Acta bioquím. clín. latinoam. [online]. 2006, vol.40, n.3, pp.299-305. ISSN 0325-2957.

During the last 25 years there has been a revolution in the field of the physiology of Hemostasis, with immediate translation to a better understanding of the thrombophilic states. The current paper reviews some of the advances in the field of serpins and especially antithrombin. Its role as a main inhibitor of thrombin as well as its relevance in congenital and acquired thrombophilias are discussed. A tribute is offered to a pioneer and a muse in this area, Dra. Lucía Kordich.

Keywords : antithrombin; serpins; thrombophilia; heparin; pregnancy; L-asparaginase.
