Abstract

LARREGINA, Alejandra et al. Molecular diagnostic of prothrombotic risk factors in dialysed patients. Acta bioquím. clín. latinoam. [online]. 2006, vol.40, n.3, pp.341-345. ISSN 0325-2957.

Thromboembolic disease is a multifactorial disorder that results from existing relations between acquired and genetic factors. Hypercoagulation states or thrombophilia increase the risk of thrombosis development. The aim of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of three prothrombotic risk factors: factor V Leiden, prothrombin 20210 and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase thermolability in 100 chronic hemodialysed patients, 29 women and 71 men. Point mutation study showed that one patient was homozygote for factor V Leiden, another was heterozygote for prothrombin 20210, and finally 14 patients presented mutated methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase thermolability, 6 homozygote and 8 heterozygote. Those findings must be kept in mind when anticoagulant treatment is indicated to those patients having venous access danger, considering their best quality of life.

Keywords : prothrombotic risk factors; chronic hemodialysed patients.
