Abstract

COMPAGNUCCI, Luis A.  and  ROIG ALSINA, Arturo. Sceliphron curvatum, a new invasive wasp in Argentina (Hymenoptera, Sphecidae). Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent. [online]. 2008, vol.67, n.3-4, pp.65-70. ISSN 0373-5680.

The introduction of the spheciform wasp Sceliphron curvatum (Smith), an Asian wasp that has behaved as invasive in Europe, is registered for Argentina. This wasp has been found in Buenos Aires city and in Partido de Vicente López, province of Buenos Aires. The morphological and behavioral characteristics of this wasp are given, comparing them with those of the two native species of Sceliphron Klug that occur in South America, both present in Argentina. A key with illustrations, distributions, and diagnoses for the three species are presented.
