Abstract

BEJARANO, Eduar Elías; PEREZ-DORIA, Alveiro  and  SIERRA, Diana. Description of a new species of Trichomyia (Diptera: Psychodidae) from the Colombian Andes. Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent. [online]. 2009, vol.68, n.3-4, pp.295-300. ISSN 0373-5680.

Trichomyia risaraldensis sp. nov., a new species of Psychodidae from the Colombian Andes, is described and illustrated. The type material was collected using a CDC light trap in the municipality of Marsella, department of Risaralda, Colombia. Morphologically speaking, Trichomyia risaraldensis sp. nov. resembles Trichomyia amata Barretto, Trichomyia brasiliensis Satchell, Trichomyia pseudodactylis Quate, and Trichomyia quatei Bravo, but can be distinguished from those species by traits of the head, wing and male genitalia. With the description of Trichomyia risaraldensis sp. nov., the number of Neotropical species in the genus Trichomyia is increased to 71.

Keywords : Trichomyiinae; New species; Risaralda; Colombia.
