Abstract

FAIRSTEIN, Gabriela Alejandra. Students’ questions and knowledge construction in classroom. Espac. blanco, Ser. indagaciones [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.2, pp.195-224. ISSN 1515-9485.

This article is a theoretical analysis about the potential, for the psycho-educational research, of studying classroom dialog segments tagged by spontaneous students’ questions about the content. We believe that this study allows us to analyze some aspects of the knowledge construction in the context of classroom interaction. Based on a broad constructivist approach, we consider the spontaneous questions externalize the student’s cognitive construction. This allows the teacher to reconstruct the cognitive process that generated it and to provide an answer to guide the student knowledge reorganization. The paper presents a sociocultural theoretical frame to show that the interactions tagged by these questions may represent analyzers of teacher – student negotiation of meaning. We present methodological explanations about the potential of this model related to the current challenges in the research of class cognitive interaction.

Keywords : Classroom talk; constructivism.
