Abstract

NAVARRO FLORIA, Pedro  and  NUNEZ, Paula Gabriela. A Possible Territory in the Impossible Republic: Colonel Sarobe and the Problems of the Argentine Patagonia). Andes [online]. 2012, vol.23, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.

The process of territorial formation of the Latin American states is one of the problematic points in the integration of its marginal areas. The nationalization of Argentine Patagonia is a clear example of this problem. In the 1930s several voices say that the incorporation of this large and rich land to the territory of the nation is still unresolved. Colonel Sarobe, representative of the professional sector of the Argentine army, made the best analysis available on the problems of Patagonia, which still remains in force in many respects. To the criticism of the policies tested so far, it adds the proposal of an active State role for colonization and political autonomy for the region.

Keywords : Territorial formation; Internal colonialism; Patagonia; Sarobe.
