Abstract

COLOMBO, Graciela et al. Violencia familiar contra la mujer en las etapas de embarazo, parto y puerperio: la mirada de los profesionales de un servicio público de maternidad y obstetricia. Rev. argent. sociol. [online]. 2006, vol.4, n.7, pp.73-98. ISSN 1669-3248.

This paper presents the results of the UBACYT research project "Prevalence of Violence against Women: An Alternative Approach from the Health Care Field," carried out in a Public Hospital's Maternity and Obstetrics Service in the City of Buenos Aires (Argentina). The study sought to identify the social representations and attitudes of medical-obstetrics discourse as regards domestic violence against women (etiological explanations, affected populations, intervention strategies), and create a typology of social representations in medical-obstetrics discourse as regards domestic violence. Based on semi-structured interviews to the Hospital's practitioners, the questions were developed according to the different sectors in which they perform their professional task: outpatients' offices, delivery, and inpatients.

Keywords : Health Practitioners; Family Violence against Women; Social Representations; Pregnancy; Delivery; Puerperium; Prevention Strategies.
