Abstract

DE FEO, María Eugenia. Village landscapes in Quebrada del Toro, Salta, during the Late Formative Period: Vth to IXth centuries AD. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2014, vol.13, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1669-9041.

This paper aims to summarize and discuss recent advances in the study of Late Formative cultural landscapes in Quebrada del Toro (Salta, Argentina). The information presented derives from functionally different contexts (domestic, productive, funeral) and is analyzed at different spatial levels (local, regional and macro-regional). The results report continuity in the organization of domestic areas, and the strategy of control and use of regional space, which involved a high mobility linked to camelid herding. In contrast, significant changes are documented in agricultural landscapes. Goods such as obsidian and styles of foreign origin also account for some continuities and changes in the interactions at a macro-regional level.

Keywords : Late Formative; Quebrada del Toro; Cultural landscape.
