This paper reflects on the mass media coverage of controversial issues related to science and technology, in order to identify its connection with citizen participation processes. It focuses, particularly, on a debate held in a small town in southern Spanish, about the risks of the installation of mobile phones aerials. It concludes that one of the problems detected when analyzing the media contents is the lack of a deeper coverage of science and technology.
