Abstract

MEZZADRI, Juan José  and  RIMOLDI, Jaime Jorge. Magnitud del área triangular y su relación con el punto de inserción de los tornillos pediculares: estudio comparativo. Rev. argent. neurocir. [online]. 2006, vol.20, n.4, pp.157-160. ISSN 1850-1532.

Objective: to compare the size of the osseous triangular area, adjacent to lumbar pedicle screws, between to insertion techniques. Method: in 50 cases (27 males - 23 females) with a median age of 54.4 years, magnetic resonance images of normal lumbar spines were obtained. Axial sections through the pedicles of the vertebrae L4 were studied with the following protocol: FSE, T2 weighted images (TE:130 TR:1740), nex 2, 2 mm slices, FOV: 256x256, with a Signa Infinity equipment, GE 1.5 T. We draw lines centred in both pedicles following 2 angles: angle 1 of 18º between the base of the superior facet to the anterior third of the vertebral body and angle 2 of 38º between the union of the transverse process with the base of the superior facet and the anterior third of the vertebral body. The triangular areas adjacent to the lines were measured (mm) and compared. The statistical analysis was performed with ANOVA for repeated measurements and with the Scheffe test for ad hoc comparisons. Results: the averages of areas for angle 1 were: right 63.86±1.77 and left 64.06±1.54; the differences were not statistically significative (p=0.906). The averages of areas for angle 2 were: right 154.36±1.87 and left 154.54±1.81; the differences were not statistically significative (p=0.929). The differences found in the size of the right and left areas at L4, between the two insertion techniques, were very significative (p<0.0001). Conclusion: the sizes of the triangular areas adjacent to the lines following the angle 2 were larger than those adjacent to the lines following the angle 1 and their differences were statistically significative.
