Abstract

GORDILLO, Inés; VAQUER, José M.  and  BASILE, Mara. Archaeological Surveys In Andalgalá, Catamarca): Results And Prospects. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2010, vol.11, n.2, pp.261-275. ISSN 1850-373X.

In this paper we present the results of investigations conducted in the Andalgalá Region, Catamarca, Argentina. After a discussion of previous research in the area and an outline of the methodology employed, we present the results of ceramics analysis, architectural evidence retrieved and recorded during systematic surveys, and data from archaeological collections. The results suggest a complex occupational history of the area, where ceramic styles from different periods and regions converge. The sample did not allow us to identify the spatial limits of the different occupations, as in all areas surveyed the ceramic material is temporally diagnostic from the Formative period on. Nevertheless, we detected some tendencies that may serve as hypotheses for future research. On the basis of the evidence analyzed, we propose a tentative occupational history and note the intense dynamism that dominated the area.
