Abstract

SOTO RODRIGUEZ, Catalina  and  SALAZAR SUTIL, Diego. Mullu (Spondylus sp.) en el Complejo Minero San José del Abra (Alto Loa, Norte de Chile). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2016, vol.17, n.1, pp.129-135. ISSN 1850-373X.

This article aims at presenting the finding of fragments of Spondylus princeps and Spondilus calcifer in the Late Period context of the mining exploitations at the Complejo Minero San José del Abra. This finding can be considered an indirect indicator of the control exerted by the Inkas over mining production in the area, since their presence and context of deposition suggest the existence of "rituals of production" devoted to the land that involved the use of iconic elements of the State such as mullu.

Keywords : Spondylus princeps; Spondylus calcifer; Mullu; Prehispanic mining; Religion; Atacama; Inka.
