Abstract

PAL, Nélida  and  LEIPUS, Marcela. Recursos vegetales en las sociedades cazadoras- recolectoras pampeanas: abordaje desde el análisis funcional de base microscópica. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.2, pp.143-164. ISSN 1850-373X.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.37176/iea.24.2.2023.789.

Hunter-gatherer societies that occupied the Pampean grasslands exploited plant resources whose transformation required the implementation of a range of technological practices. The aim of this study is to contribute to the knowledge of the lithic technology used for the processing of plant resources among hunter-gatherer societies of the Pampas from a holistic perspective. The paper also discusses the relationship between production and use context, and evaluates technological variability through time of tools used to process vegetables. Nineteen lithic-tool assemblages used to process plant resources, from the Pleistocene-Holocene Transition to the late Holocene, were analyzed. The results indicate the use of retouched and non-retouched artifacts obtained by direct percussion manufactured from medium-sized internal quartzite flakes. The relationship between morphological variables and use can be formulated in the following trends: (1) straight edges for cutting and convex edges for scraping; (2) acute angles for cutting wood and vegetables; and (3) short retouched edges and notches for roughing wood and natural edges for cutting soft vegetables.
