Abstract

CADAVID JULIAN, Julian Moreno; PIEDRAHITA OSPINA, Alberto Alejandro  and  ROSECLER BEZ, Marta. The role of digital game and competition in mathematics' learning: joint experience in primary schools in Colombia and Brazil. Rev. electrón. investig. educ. cienc. [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.2, pp.30-51. ISSN 1850-6666.

This research presents the use of a digital game, specifically an online multiplayer game, as a didactic strategy for teaching addition and subtraction of fractions for primary school fifth grade students. Likewise, a validation using a quasi-experimental design with 250 students between 10 and 12 years old from three educational institutions, two in Colombia and one on Brazil, is presented. Such a validation was made in both quantitative and qualitative manner in terms of academic achievement and course perception respectively. In the second case not only students were involved, but also their parents.

Keywords : Mathematics; Fractions; Digital game; Primary school.
