Abstract

GALPERIN, Diego  and  RAVIOLO, Andrés. Analysis of images related to day/night, seasons and lunar phases in primary school teaching texts. Rev. electrón. investig. educ. cienc. [online]. 2017, vol.12, n.1, pp.1-11. ISSN 1850-6666.

Studies related to the teaching and learning of everyday astronomical phenomena reveal that a large proportion of students at different stages of their education, and even teachers, experience difficulties in understanding this subject. An analysis is presented here which focuses on the hypothesis that some of these difficulties may be caused by the way the topic is dealt with in school text books. In particular, attention is drawn to the images presented in primary level text books where it is supposed that the day/night cycle, seasons of the year and lunar phases are explained. A large number of errors in concepts and didactics were detected, which reinforces the hypothesis proposed, and suggests the need to review the way this kind of educational material is produced.

Keywords : Images; Astronomy; Books; Errors.
