Abstract

CUENYA, Lucas. Work stressors, social support and alcohol consumption in youngs. Anu. investig. [online]. 2007, vol.14, pp.00-00. ISSN 1851-1686.

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the possible relation between work stressors, perceived social support and alcohol use in young people. A descriptive- correlation and cross-sectional design was used. Sample: 188 subjects, wage-earning young adults between 18 and 30 years old, all students from different educational institutions from the City of Buenos Aires. Instruments: a sociodemographic and sociolabour questionnaire (developed for the present investigation), Occupational Stress Inventory (OSI, Osipow & Spokane, 1987; adaptation: Schufer, 1998). Alcohol use and abuse measures: we assessed the maximum ingestion on a same occasion and the frequency of drunken behaviour on the last thirty days. Results: We found some differences between some of the occupational stressors measurements as a function of non-use, moderate use, and excessive alcohol consumption. There was also a direct association between social support y alcohol ingestion intensity.

Keywords : Work stressors; Social support; Alcohol.
