Abstract

CRESPI, Melina Claudia  and  MIKULIC, Isabel María. Social reintegration of parolees: a research study about relational dimension from the perspective of the social support networks. Anu. investig. [online]. 2009, vol.16, pp.211-221. ISSN 1851-1686.

This work aims to incorporate the relational dimension in understanding the process of social reintegration of those released, assessing the structural, functional and contextual social support networks of this population. An exploratory-descriptive study was performed with the participation of 85 subjects on conditional release. To analyze the structural and functional characteristics of the networks a Community Social Support Questionnaire (CASC) has been designed and administered. Contextual aspects of the networks were assessed through semi-structured interviews. Data from these interviews has been analyzed using qualitative analysis strategies. The results show the presence of vulnerable networks characterized by their small size, high density, few connections to other subnets due to the lack of a joint which could be used as bridges to some heterogeneous networks and poor support functions especially in the social and community level. Networks are also characterized by the existence of various breaks in the relationships that provide the contextual framework for understanding the vulnerability reported.

Keywords : Social support networks; Relational vulnerability; Social reintegration; Parolees.
