This work is an advance of Comes D'Agostino Ph.D. fellowship inanced by UNLP (Thesis Director: Psic. Edith Alba Perez). It is framed from the investigation project titled: "Psychologists in the public sector: Past and Present Health-Development-Social Security and Justice" (Director Psic. Edith Alba Perez). In this article, we make a distinction between social imaginary and social representations. To do this, we consider the relationship between the social imaginary and the institution, understanding of the imaginary as creation. In turn, we consider criticism of the concept of ideology and rationality made by Castoriadis. In the second place, we list different ways of investigating social imaginary that are currently used in research. We conclude that their study cannot be reduced to a technical note that only fragmented aspects of human behavior.
