Abstract

LIMA, Natacha S.  and  ORMART, Elizabeth B.. The feminine body: between social demands and techno-scientific rationality. Anu. investig. [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.2, pp.225-232. ISSN 1851-1686.

The following paper addresses the conflictive crossroads between the techno-scientific development and the field of subjectivity. In order to do this, we will analyze the privileged scenery of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART). Also we will analyze how one of the main theoretical notions of modernity: the ideal of instrumental rationality and its principles, is more effective and active than ever. To reflect on the scope that the techno-scientific rationality has in the fields of humanity we will consider the main arguments developed by Hannah Arendt for the categories of work, labor, creation and product. Finally we will reflect on the place that women have in these unprecedented scenarios which are the reproductive technologies in history of mankind; the tension that arises between social mandate and the order of desire, femininity and motherhood in the subjective framework and desiring order.

Keywords : Instrumental Rationality; Human Assisted Reproductive Technologies; Reprogenetics; Ethics.
