Abstract

BALBI, Fernando Alberto. Moral, ética y codificación en la antropología sociocultural argentina. Avá [online]. 2016, n.28, pp.43-71. ISSN 1851-1694.

An upcoming debate in our field is whether Argentina's social/cultural anthropologists should adopt a professional code of ethics. This article intends to contribute to creating the terms for this debate, providing an anthropological vision  -that is, a theoretically and ethnographically informed view- of the topic. Ethics is hered  understood as an aspect of morals which, in turn, are characterized as a cognitive phenomenon and as an analytically differentiable dimension of social life in general. Using these terms, the paper will examine the social conditions framing the production of a code of professional ethics, as well as the conditions and the limits of its efficacy. Finally, we present some arguments in favour of the adoption of a code regulating our professional practices.

Keywords : Social and/or cultural anthropology; Morals; Ethics; Code of professional ethics.
