Abstract

GAROLERA DE NUCCI, L. Patricia et al. Sorgo azucarado: estudio ambiental y potencial uso para producción de bioetanol. Rev. ind. agric. Tucumán [online]. 2020, vol.97, n.2, pp.17-23. ISSN 1851-3018.

The aim of the present study isto estimate the environmental profile of the agricultural production of sweet sorghum in the province of Tucumán. For this purpose, theLife Cycle Assessment(LCA) methodology is used. Results showed that the main contribution to the environmental impact was due mainly to the production of diesel and herbicides. In addition, some progress is made in the production of bioethanol from sweet sorghum for the generation of a life cycle inventory (LCI) of this biofuel. Based on this analysis and the feasibility of industrializing this new feedstock for biofuel production, there is a need to carry out LCAstudies on the bioethanol of sweet sorghum, and to evaluate the sustainability of biofuels. These research initiatives will help agroindustrial actors of Tucumán and the Argentine Northwestern Region to diversify and specify clear objectives to obtain new sources of renewable energy.
