Abstract

AIELLO, Francisco. Aimé Césaire as an essay-writer: a reading on toussaint louvertur. Rev. Pilquen. secc. cienc. soc. [online]. 2013, vol.16, n.2, suppl.1, pp.00-00. ISSN 1851-3123.

This paper focuses on a text of Césaire poorly treated by critics: Toussaint Louverture. La Révolution française et le problème colonial, 1960. Therefore, firstly, we make considerations about its possible consideration as an essay, emphasizing that this text dialogues with the context in which the booh was produced. Then, we examine echoes of controversies that concerned Césaire: the so-called départamensatisation of 1946 -from which the Martinican was directly responsible as a legislator in the National Assembly-, and his resignation from the French Communist Party in 1956.

Keywords : Francophone Caribbean; Aimé Césaire; Toussaint Louverture; Historical essay.
