Abstract
ROMAN ALARCON, Rigoberto Arturo. Dominance, decline and failure of the shrimp cooperatives in Mazatlán (México) 1982-2017. Rev. Pilquen. secc. cienc. soc. [online]. 2018, vol.21, n.5, pp.13-25. ISSN 1851-3123.
The origin of the fishing cooperatives of Mazatlan like the rest of the country, was not a spontaneous social movement, it was under the shadow of the Mexican State and a protectionist legislation that granted them the usufruct of important fishing species such as shrimp; However, it did not provide the necessary means to carry out its capture and it was not until 1982, when the shrimp fleet was transferred, when this exploitation exclusivity became reality. In spite of this their dominion in the activity would only be a few years since the bad administration of the cooperatives; the corruption existing among its members brought as a consequence its decline and failure of the most of them.
