Abstract

Based on data from the survey on «perception of the right to access to public information in public officials», administered in 2013, the article shows that Chilean public officials value at State, show a remarkable commitment to citizens and to the«right to know», but have a limited knowledge about the law, the agency that regulate this right, the mechanisms that made it effective and show a limited understanding of their role as facilitators of a closer, reliable, cooperative and transparent relationship between the State and citizens. The study concludes on the need to promote extensive persuasive campaigns and intensive training to address the weakness of Chilean public officials.
