Debates in Argentina about the media system regulation once more affirms that «communication and culture constitute now a days the primordial political battlefield.»5 As a part of this process, during the last decades, the indigenous organizations have demanded and acted participation in the media, as well as being recognized as legitimate interlocutors when regulating the audiovisual communication services. Aiming at the understanding of the phenomenon, and assuming «setting historically the terms of the debates is in itself a way of assuming the struggles (.) between discourse and things»6 the article suggests surveying formative gestation of the conceptualization about massive communication practice and space in Latin America indigenous population, linking it with the economic/politic/socio cultural processes where they sprouted. On one side, because the indigenous configuration processes in Latin America influenced those conceptualizations. And simultaneously, the approaching related to those groups and their communication practices are not a mere passive instrument in building up sense about those subjects, but also are part of those processes.
