Abstract
PALUMBO, Mercedes. UN DESPLAZAMIENTO SEMÁNTICO, POLÍTICO Y GEOGRÁFICO EN LA TRADICIÓN DE ESTUDIOS SOBRE MOVIMIENTOS SOCIALES: APORTES DEL CONCEPTO DE MOVIMIENTO POPULAR. Estud. - Cent. Estud. Av., Univ. Nac. Córdoba [online]. 2014, n.32, pp.25-48. ISSN 1852-1568.
The academic studies about social movements - as a category within collective action theories - is characterized by a course that started in the North-American and European academies in the sixties and seventies and reached Latin America in the eighties and nineties. This first Latin American academic reception of social movement concept was associated to the emergence of real social movements in the framework of the process involved in the transition towards democracy and the implementation of neoliberal policies in the region. This paper aims to point out a second set of academic studies that propose to replace the social movement concept with popular movement one. This semantic dislocation implies two intellectual actions: to rethink the particularity of these forms of collective actions in Latin America; to recover the social class analysis as a dimension involved - along with others - in social phenomena; and to develop new research approaches
Keywords : social movements; social class; popular movements; Latin America.
