Abstract

MARGARIA1, Paulo  and  SCHNYDER2, Celeste. CUANDO EL PODER POLÍTICO NECESITA INFORMACIÓN: NOTAS SOBRE EL VÍNCULO POLÍTICA Y POLICÍA EN LA ARGENTINA RECIENTE. Estud. - Cent. Estud. Av., Univ. Nac. Córdoba [online]. 2014, n.32, pp.243-263. ISSN 1852-1568.

This paper explores a form of linkage between politics and police in Argentina. Following the contributions of Helene L'Heuillet and Jean Paul Brodeur, we start from a critical point of view of the perceptions that maintain that the police keeps an instrumental relationship with governmental authority to argue that, rather than a simply means of politics, is a constituent of its structure. We analyzed the organ of political control in the argentine polices; the Department of Police Information (DPI) and we selected the case of Santiago del Estero. We reconstruct the processes, national and provincial, that led to the formation of DPI in the province and, through the trajectory of its principal officer; we present the political articulations with Juarismo. The research was based on interviews with Juarismo's police officers and political leaders, internal police documents and documents extracted from court cases where state terrorism was investigated in the province, also archives of local and national newspapers. Ultimately we seek to show that "santiagueña" police, rather than an instrument of domination; is part of and has taken part in, the construction of political order; and that the linkage between politics and police, built up particularly in the second half of the twentieth century, has remained despite the passage of an authoritarian regime to a democratic one
