Abstract

GONZALEZ, Aurelio. El corrido: expresión popular y tradicional de la balada hispánica. Olivar [online]. 2011, vol.12, n.15, pp.11-36. ISSN 1852-4478.

The article undertakes a revision of the presence of Spanish ballad in Mexico, and its transformation during the 19th century into the ballad form known as corrido: a study on the "romance" and corrido language in Mexico, on their relationship with the social context in order to develop different themes, and on the resulting creation of literary expressions that may be defined as popular, traditional, and vulgar or "blind" songs, according to Menéndez Pidal's concepts, which nowadays are still valid to explain the different trends and features of these literary forms.

Keywords : Spanish ballad; Corrido; Traditional style; Popular texts.
