Abstract

GARDENAL, Cristina N.. Desde la Genética de Poblaciones, aportes al conocimiento de la historia natural de algunas zoonosis. BAG, J. basic appl. genet. [online]. 2011, vol.22, n.1. ISSN 1852-6233.

This review presents a brief account of our studies aimed to characterize the population genetic structure of species of sanitary interest, to identify the processes that model it and to analyze its possible association with environmental factors related to persistence and spreading of some zoonoses. In rodents, the studies involve species that are reservoir of the Argentine hemorrhagic fever virus and of hantavirus responsible for the Pulmonary syndrome. Our results on species of mosquitoes vectors of dengue and several types of encephalitis are also referred. We emphasize the importance of a precise taxonomic identification, by means of molecular markers, of the species involved in the transmission of different viral genotypes in order to define the areas with potential risk of infection.

Keywords : Population genetic structure; Zoonosis; Reservoir rodents; Vector mosquitoes; Taxonomic identification.
