Abstract

COIRINI, Rubén; CORDOBA, A.; KARLIN, U. O.  and  MAZZUFERI, V.. Economic damage produced by the infestation of Torneutes pallidipennis Reich (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) in Prosopis aff. flexuosa in the region of the Arid Chaco of Córdoba province . Multequina [online]. 2001, vol.10, n.1, pp.25-34. ISSN 1852-7329.

In the phytogeographycal region of the Arid Chaco of Córdoba the pressure that the small producers realize on the forest resource “algarrobo” is high due to the loss of the economic value of the products that are commercialized. One of the forms to increase to its value and quality is through the control of Torneutes pallidipennis Reich (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), main causal agent of the damages produced in the branches of Prosopis aff. flexuosa, where the larva develops located longitudinal galleries in duramen. The objective of this work is to ndFragment-->consider the economic loss produced by the infestation of this insect. Four conditions of site that arise from a factorial adjustment of the factors arboreal density and the quality of site, with two levels settled down each one. An important loss in volume of firewood was verified and it determined a significant coefficient of linear correlation between economic damage and percentage of infested trees. The economic damage was greater in the sites of smaller quality, where the percentage of infested trees was greater.

Keywords : Site quality; Forest density; Economic value.
