Abstract

FERNANDEZ, Fernando J. et al. Small mammals recorded in three localities of the center-west of Mendoza province (Didelphimorphia and Rodentia). Multequina [online]. 2009, vol.18, n.1, pp.3-14. ISSN 1852-7329.

We analized pellets of two strigiform species to know the specific constitution of the communities of small mammals from three localities at central west Mendoza province, Argentina. Las Leñas and Laguna El Sosneado are locaties situated at the Patagonian Phytogeographic Province, at the ecotone with the Altoandina Province; Gruta del Indio belongs to the Monte Province. Small mammals adapted to xeric environments of the Monte Desert mainly constituted the community of the latter locality (e. g., Eligmodontia sp., Calomys musculinus, Graomys griseoflavus y Akodon molinae). Small mammals, commonly present at the Patagonian and high Andes steppes, constituted the communities of Las Leñas and Laguna El Sosneado (e. g., Euneomys chinchilloides, Abrothrix olivaceus, Chelemys macronyx). Nevertheless, some differences between these localities were observed. These differences were possibly due to distinct microhabitats and to a westernmost location of Las Leñas.
