LOPEZ OVENZA, Juan Manuel; RANALLETTA, Maximiliano  and  MAIGNON, Gastón. Level of scientific evidence in the Revista de la Asociación Argentina de Ortopedia y Traumatología. A Comparison of two time periods. Rev. Asoc. Argent. Ortop. Traumatol. [online]. 2012, vol.77, n.2, pp.147-150. ISSN 1852-7434.

Background: The purpose of our study was to make a descriptive analysis of published articles in the 2006-2007 biennium and to determine if there was an impro-vement in the level of evidence between 1996-1997 and 2006-2007. Methods: Were reviewed in retrospective study all the published articles in the years 1996-1997 and 2006-2007 bienniums in the Revista de la Asociación Argentina de Ortopedia y Traumatología (RAAOT). Two hundred forty articles in the 1996-1997 and 2006-2007 bienniums were reviewed. In the 1996-1997 biennium were excluded from the analysis 8 of 134 (6%) articles that were based on experimental studies and for the biennium 2006-2007 were excluded 7 of 106 (6.6%) of the analysis, of which 6 were experimental articles. Results: The level of evidence of the RAAOT was 3.9 in the 2006-2007 biennium, while in the 1996-1997 biennium was 4.1. In the 1996-1997 biennium 6 out of 128 (4.4% ) were levels I, II, III while in 2006-2007 biennium 14 out 99 (14.1%) articles were of the same level (P < 0.02). Conclusions: According to our findings, we have found a significant improvement in the level of evidence. The average of level of evidence in the biennium 2006-2007 was 3.9.
