Abstract

TOURAL DAPOZA, Rafael  and  MOREIRAS, Stella M. Application of geomorphological indexes in the neotectonic active piedmont of Mendoza (32º S). Geoacta [online]. 2017, vol.42, n.2, pp.45-63. ISSN 1852-7744.

In this study we apply three different geomorphological indexes (Sinuosity of mountain front, river longitudinal gradient and basin shape) as indicator of tectonic activity in different basins of the Mendoza piedmont where active tectonic zones are recognized. A strong correlation exits among obtained results of different analyzed indexes what allow to validate the utility of these techniques to evidence the neotectonic activity of the Mendocinian piedmont. These findings indicate deformation is being accumulated in the southern sector of the Mendoza piedmont. Besides, they reveal that this region is divided in several active tectonic sectors remarked by the geomorphological indexes.
