Abstract

GASTRON, Liliana  and  LACASA, Débora. La percepción de cambios en la vida de hombres y mujeres, según la edad. Poblac. soc. [online]. 2009, vol.16, n.1, pp.3-27. ISSN 1852-8562.

Glen Elder2 referred to the life course as an "emerging field of inquiry". Diverse authors have assumed that as growing old, life changes perceived by people decrease; before the advanced old age, in the balance of gains and losses, gains are more likely than losses; changes mentioned by people may be self-referred or take into account the significant others and while ageing, changes mentioned are more and more self-referred; life pathways may be distinguished in various dimensions along the life course. Our proposal in this paper was to make emerging comparative hypothetical analysis deeper in the different age brackets, taking into account not only time changes but gender differences for interpretation. Openended interviews done in the field work to 572 men and women distributed in five age groups: youth (20-24), young adulthood (35-39), older adulthood (50-54), young old age (65-69) and older old age (75-84) should help us in order to construct theoretical assumptions.

Keywords : Life course; Gender; Changes; Gains; Losses.
