Abstract

CAMINOTTI, Mariana  and  TABBUSCH, Constanza. El embate neoconservador a las políticas de igualdad de género tras el fin del “giro a la izquierda” en América Latina. Poblac. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.28, n.2, pp.29-50. ISSN 0328-3445.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.19137/pys-2021-280203.

In Latin America, gender equality policies are being challenged by campaigns against sexual and non-reproductive rights, comprehensive sexuality education, and gender as an analytical approach. This article analyses the advances and pitfalls of gender equality policies during the Latin American pink tide and the most recent rise of the political right wing. We argue that, while earlier opposition focused their efforts on a narrow set of policy issues linked to sexuality and reproduction, a novel and distinctive feature of contemporary gender backlash is the expansion of that organized opposition into new previously uncontested policy domains.

Keywords : Gender policies; Gender backlash; Anti-gender movement; Left turn; Feminisms.
