Abstract

GONZALEZ BRACCO, Mercedes. Asociaciones vecinales patrimonialistas en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires: apuntes para una genealogía. Cuad. urbano [online]. 2014, vol.16, n.16, pp.51-68. ISSN 1853-3655.

In recent years the city of Buenos Aires is experiencing unexpected local concern in the defense of their neighborhoods. Facing both building renovation and land use changes that trigger effects that destroy or deform oíd buildings or certain traditional social spa-ces, a growing number of neighborhood associations have made urban heritage a subject of intense public interest in local political agendas. On the assumption that these forms of protest are related to previous cases, this article aims to look at the history of these neighborhood associations - central stakeholders in the material and symbolic building of the city of Buenos Aires - in order to understand how different approaches to the use of language and practical actions in the battle over preserving the city have evolved.. This overview was based on secondary sources, complemented with some interviews and meetings with several current neighborhood organizations, allowing us to put online the different discursive and action strategies in order to facilitate participation in the different modes of "building the city".
