Abstract
AIELLO, Francisco. Sobre la lengua francesa en Rubén Darío y en Vicente Huidobro. CELEHIS [online]. 2017, n.33, pp.1-10. ISSN 2313-9463.
This paper presents in a contrastive way the role played by the French language in the aesthetic project of two Hispanic American poets: the Nicaraguan Rubén Darío and the Chilean Vicente Huidobro. First, we examine the imprint of Darío in the early poetry of Huidobro, of strong modernist marks. Such a presence is recognized through the recurrence of Darío’s topics and the insertion of verses in French; we also considerate a highly laudatory article towards the author of Azul published by the Chilean in his magazine Musa Joven. In the second place, we analyze some Darío’s prose texts in which he comments on his own work, explaining the decisive role played by the French in his aesthetic inquiry, characterized by the “galicismo mental” diagnosed by Juan Valera. Finally, in order to establish the contrast, the avant-garde production of Huidobro (from 1916) is considered to observe the alternation between Spanish and French in his poems as a mode of experimentation, taking into account his opinions expressed in the manifesto “El creacionismo”.
Keywords : Hispanic American poetry – French language – Rubén Darío – Vicente Huidobro.
