Abstract

COLOMBI, Beatriz. Rubén Darío y Auguste Rodin: modernidades desfasadas. CELEHIS [online]. 2017, n.33, pp.1-10. ISSN 2313-9463.

This article analyzes the chronicles that Rubén Dario wrote writes about Auguste Rodin on the occasion of the opening of Rodin's Exposition in Paris in 1900. In these writings we find an ambiguous valuation of the work of the parisian sculptor, seen by his contemporaries as a milestone in modern sculpture. We propose that Dario's critical attitude towards his work is based on two arguments: the rupture of the classical form and the analogy that he traces between the Rodinian work and the philosophy of Nietzsche, in addition to the controversial background generated by the recent inauguration of Sarmiento´s monument in Buenos Aires. We also argue that this perception responds to the coexistence of lagged modernities that produces a tension between the assimilation and the resistance toward the new.

Keywords : Rubén Darío - Auguste Rodin - lagged modernities.
