Undoubtedly, Ruben Dario is one of the key writers for American literature. In this paper we analyze the importance of his work for the development of modern literature, taking as object of study the relationship he had with money, with special emphasis on his autobiography. For this, we review his diplomatic positions, his jobs in the state and his important work as a journalist.
