Abstract

SANTILLAN, Gustavo Enrique. Las relaciones sinoargentinas, 1983-2023: aspectos políticos y elementos económico-estructurales. Relac. int. [online]. 2023, vol.32, n.65, pp.105-130. ISSN 2314-2766.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/23142766e174.

This work examines the Sino-Argentinian Relationship between 1983 and 2023. To do so, it identifies the political and structural-economic dimensions conditioning this relationship. The first dimension is made up by the international political environment and by the Argentinian political vicissitudes. The economic-structural dimension, in turn, can be identified in the bilateral commercial exchange and, starting from 2007, in China's increased investment in Argentina as well as the financial support provided by the People’s Republic of China to the South American country. From this perspective, three stages can be identified in the Sino-Argentinian relationship: the first one between 1983 and 2001, a stage of political rapprochement and low economic intensity; the second one between 2002 and 2015, a stage of intensified political and economic bonds; and the third one between 2015 and 2023, a stage of fluctuations and striking a balance between the PRC and the United States on behalf of the Argentinian diplomacy, in a context signaled by the ongoing economic bond as well as by increased financial difficulties in the Argentinian Republic.

Keywords : Argentina; People’s Republic of China; bilateral relationship; stages.
