Abstract

MARTINEZ ARAGON, Cynthia Lizeth; ARELLANO GONZALEZ, Alejandro  and  LAGARDA-LEYVA, Ernesto A.. CULTURA ORGANIZACIONAL Y COMPETITIVIDAD DE LAS EMPRESAS RESTAURANTERAS Y HOTELERAS DE SONORA, MÉXICO. Cienc. adm. [online]. 2022, n.19, pp.6-6. ISSN 0009-6784.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/23143738e095.

The future of organisations is uncertain; they are in a complex and globalised environment. For this reason, companies have chosen to generate strategies to face their rivals and position themselves within the market. In this context, competition in all sectors has grown and the tourism industry is no exception. This research aimed at identifying if there was a relationship between the types of organisational culture and the levels of competitiveness of companies in the tourism sector of Sonora, Mexico, through a quantitative research, for the generation of empirical contribution of the organisational culture and competitiveness variables. The study design was non-experimental with a cross-sectional, causal-correlational design. An instrument based on the model of Cameron and Quinn (1999) and on the Competitiveness Map Tool of the Ibero-American Development Bank (IDB) adapted by Saavedra (2012) was applied to 136 companies in the tourism sector in the municipalities of Guaymas, Navojoa and Cajeme, from Sonora, Mexico, with the aim of studying organisational culture and competitiveness. The main findings indicate that there is a relationship between the types of organisational culture and the levels of competitiveness. However, clan culture was the only type for which it was possible to demonstrate the influence on the competitiveness levels of companies. This fact shows the importance of analysing both variables together and not in isolation.

Keywords : competitiveness; organisational culture; tourism.
