Abstract

DE LA VEGA DE LEON, Macarena. SAHANZ: the last 15 years, 2004-2019. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2021, vol.51, n.2, pp.1-6. ISSN 2362-2024.

This paper investigates the writing of architectural history in Australia and New Zealand promoted by SAHANZ over the last fifteen years. In 2004, the Society celebrated its twentieth anniversary. To mark the occasion, Julia Gatley was commissioned to write “SAHANZ: The First 20 Years, 1984-2004,” a historical account of the formation of the Society, its conferences and journal Fabrications, which serves as starting point and example for this research. Over this period, the research undertaken by key members of the Society not only evidences an explicit transnational and transcultural focus on Australasia, Asia and the Pacific region, but also positions Australia and New Zealand in the recent discussions on the global in architecture. The aim of this paper is to take stock of the state of architectural history and reflect on the institutional role of the Society.
