Abstract

ERVITI, Claudio  and  OLIVERA, Adriana. An inquiry about the Mar del Plata coastal landscape from mobility (1890-2010). An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2022, vol.52, n.1, pp.1-16. ISSN 2362-2024.

This work starts from understanding the decisive role of mobility -understood as a social practice of displacement in the territory in which requirements (needs and desires for displacement) and capacities to respond to them are combined- in the conformation, in the experience lived and in the perception of the coastal landscape of Mar de Plata. From the attraction generated by the particular modality in which the meeting between pampa and sea takes place here, a historical process of conditioning of the sector was unleashed since the end of the 19th century, tending to respond to programmatic, aesthetic and connective demands typical of the spa activity. The view from the mobility approach has allowed us to classify the phases of this process in three. In all these moments the demands of travel, the required infrastructures and the means of mobility have been agents of the landscape structuring of the sector.

Keywords : Mar del Plata coastal sector; mobility; seaside activity; Mar del Plata; 1890-2010.
