Abstract

VERA, Alejandro; OLIVERA, Mercedes; PROZZILLO, Paola  and  SIMKIN, Hugo. Spirituality, Religiosity, and Personality as Predictors of Flourishing. Rev. psicodebate: psicol. cult. soc. [online]. 2023, vol.23, n.2, pp.62-71.  Epub Dec 01, 2023. ISSN 2451-6600.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18682/pd.v23i2.9230.

This study aims to explore the impact of religiosity and spirituality as a potential modulator between personality factors and flourishing. The sample was composed of 359 participants with ages ranging from 18 to 68 years (M = 46.9, SD = 15.88), of both sexes (74% female, 26% male), residents of CABA. The results show that, when analyzing the effects on flourishing and its dimensions, personality factors, religiosity and spirituality appear as the most relevant explanatory variables within the models. However, contrary to the literature, openness to experience reports a weak linkage and a lack of contribution of the trait openness to experience in the explanation of flourishing. In turn, studies show that extraversion does not provide a stronger link than agreeableness or conscientiousness could provide. In conclusion, spirituality and religiosity could be considered a fundamental characteristic for flourishing.
