Resumen

SEGGIARO, Raúl et al. Modelo estructural del área termal de la Sierra La Candelaria, departamento Rosario de la frontera, Salta. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2015, vol.72, n.2, pp.265-278. ISSN 0004-4822.

The thermal springs of Rosario de la Frontera are located in the extreme north of La Candelaria belt within the southeastern part of Santa Barbara System. La Candelaria belt belongs to a fold and thrust belt which involves a low grade metamorphic basement of Medina Formation, cretaceous and paleogene syn and post-rift Salta Group deposits and the Orán Group Neogeneforeland sequences. From the map of La Candelaria belt and the interpretation of two seismic lines extended to the west and to the east, three structural sections were constructed, from which it was possible to define an imbricate thrust system with the vergence to the east. The thrust that elevate La Candelaria belt rotates a Cretaceous normal fault deeping to the east. This rotation mechanism was simulated in an analog model. From the intense fracturation of the basement along the fault zone and the synrift Pirgua Subgroup deposits result a high permeability zone that allow to connect a hot water reservoir with the surface. This reservoir, located 2.500 m deep, at the base of Pirgua Subgroup, has water equilibrium temperatures of 130º C showing a local anomalous gradient of 0,046º C/m. The anomalous gradient is in correspondence with a young uplift of the belt. The thermal waters surgence at 90° C is explained by fast water circulation along fractures to the surface.
